Abstract
827,326. Welding by fusion. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. May 6, 1957 [May 4, 1956 (2)], No. 14300/57. Addition to 797,022. Drawings to Specification. Class 83 (4). In a gas-shielded metal arc-welding process according to the parent Specification, the powdered welding composition is replaced by a powdered flux free metal which alloys with and/or deoxidizes the weld, and which contains a magnetic constituent. The shielding gas may be argon, helium, hydrogen and carbon dioxide or mixtures thereof with or without oxygen up to 15%. Examples of suitable powders for alloying are: (a) 65.6% low carbon ferrochrome, 22.6% nickel, 4.6% ferrosilicon, 4% low carbon ferromanganese, 3.2% sodium silicate; (b) 83% high carbon ferrochrome, 14.6% iron, 2.4% sodium silicate; (c) 67.8% aluminium, 29.7% iron, 2.4% sodium silicate; (d) 90% nickel-molybdenum, 6.3% iron, 1% low carbon ferrochrome, 0.5% low carbon ferromanganese, 2.2% sodium silicate; (e) 34.8% silicon, 38.3% nickel, 3.9% manganese, 16.9% copper, 6.2% sodium silicate; (f) 25.2% carbon, 25.2% ferrosilicon, 3.4% ferromanganese, 31.4% iron, 12.6% nickelmagnesium, 2.8% methyl methacrylate; and for deoxidizing are (a) 15-20% iron, 5% aqueous sodium silicate solution, remainder zirconium-silicon; (b) ferroaluminium; (c) ferrosilicon; (d) 53.2% high carbon ferrochrome, 17% ferrosilicon, 17% iron, 12.8% powder of 37.5% Al, 37.5% Ti, 25% Zr.
