Classes 75(2) and 75(4) A lighting apparatus of the kind having a reflector 3 mounted behind a light source 1 to produce a concentrated illumination over a small area Z has an optical device with two focuses located near the light source so that one focus is at the light source 1 and the second focus within the area Z of illumination, the rays of light from the device being close to and nearly parallel to the axis of the beam. The device comprises a mirror 6 generated by revolving around the beam axis Z-Z<SP>1</SP> a sector of a parabola having its focus at the light source 1 and its axis perpendicular to the axis Z-Z<SP>1</SP>, and a second mirror 10 generated by revolving about the beam axis Z-Z<SP>1</SP> a sector of a parabola having its focal point at the centre of the illuminated area Z and its axis perpendicular to the beam axis Z-Z<SP>1</SP>. In other embodiments the device is formed by the outer or inner part of a mirror 5 above the light source being formed as an ellipsoidal surface.
