Abstract
A composition for removing corrosion from iron, aluminium, and copper or brass comprises an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid of at least 25 per cent concentration together with wet-ground micaceous material of plate width 15-60 m , preferably at least 50 per cent of the plates having a width of 15-30 m , in an amount sufficient to render the resulting mixture thixotropic. The phosphoric acid generally comprises 25-35 per cent of the composition and the mica 50-55 per cent. The composition desirably also contains a wetting agent, for example "Lissapol-N" (Registered Trade Mark), in an amount of about 1 per cent by volume of the phosphoric acid solution before the mica is added.ALSO:A composition for removing corrosion from iron, aluminium, and copper or brass comprises an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid of at least 25 per cent concentration together with wet-ground micaceous material of plate width 15-60m preferably at least 50 per cent of the plates having a width of 15-30m , in an amount sufficient to render the resulting mixture thixotropic. The phosphoric acid generally comprises 25-35 per cent of the composition, and the mica 50-55 per cent. The composition desirably also contains a wetting agent, for example Lissapol-N (Registered Trade Mark), in an amount of about 1 per cent by volume of the phosphoric acid solution before the mica is added. The composition may be applied to metallic surfaces lying at any angle, and, being a gel when at rest, does not run off inverted surfaces. The acid is therefore held in contact with the surface for sufficient time to take effect.
