Abstract

574,657. Electric induction heating. HAIM, G., and ZADE, H. P. Dec. 23, 1943, No. 21562. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXVIII] Flanged pipes and the like of plastic material are united by subjecting the contacting surfaces to sufficient pressure while they are subjected to a high frequency electric field as described in Specification 555,054. An insert may be placed between the flanges to bond them together. The uniting process may also be applied to vessels, valves, bends and other pipe fittings, and to the joining of a plate to a flange. Flanges 34, 35. which may be united to pipes 30, 31 as described in Specification 574,656, are clamped between electrodes 38, 39 connected to a high frequency source 42. The electrodes, which are semi-annular, form part of the jaws of two pairs of pliers 43, 44, of insulating material, pivoted at 45, and held closed by springs, not shown. The electrodes are pressed against the flanges by a spring 46 compressed by a pair of cams 47, the pairs of pliers pivoting at 49, 50. The pliers maybe separated by removing the nut 51.
