Abstract
556,136. Gas cooker hot plates. HERMANN, R. May 22, 1942, No. 7034. [Class 126] A hot plate or ring of a gas cooker preferably made from or incorporating a material of high heat conductivity is formed with a flat top but of diminishing thickness from the centre to the outer edge to obtain a substantially uniform distribution of heat over the top surface. Fig. 3 shows a copper hot plate 10 having an inverted conical under surface formed with depending fins 11, and coated with a corrosion resistant layer 12 of iron, steel, chromium, aluminium, or other metal or alloy. The hot plate 10 is supported above the burner 14 by a metal shell 13 having a metal lining 17 or a fireclay or steatite lining coated with a bright or polished metal layer to reflect the heat radiated by the burner on to the hot plate. Instead of the fins 11 the underside of the hotplate may be grooved recessed or formed with depending pegs. The hotplate may alternatively consist of a flat cast iron plate having a copper plate formed with fins secured to its lower surface or the whole hotplate may be of cast iron having inserts of copper or other highly conductive material secured within it as described in Specification 555,301. In another construction a mould coated with a thin layer of heat and corrosion resisting metal is filled with a mixture of powdered iron and copper the proportions of iron to copper gradually varying so that one surface is pure iron and the other pure copper. The contents of the mould are then sintered together. In a further construction a hollow iron plate of compressed iron powder has bores or recesses filled with copper powder and the whole is compressed or sintered together.
