Abstract
518,839. Delivering material from hoppers. KOPPERS COKE OVEN CO., Ltd., and PURVES, G. T. Sept. 6, 1938, No. 26068. [Class 78 (i)] The outlet doors of a whole row or a number of rows of hoppers are operated simultaneously by a common operating mechanism, with means to detach any pair of doors for separate hand operation. Fig. 4 shows the invention applied to the discharge of coal from storage bunkers into moving trucks, in which each hopper 11 is fitted with a pair of co-operating hinged doors 21 mounted on separate pivots 24 connected by toothed geared sectors 26. One door of each pair is connected by linkage 36. 33 to a rock shaft 27 operated by linkage 30 from the doubleacting fluid-pressure cylinder 32. There may be a separate cylinder for each rock shaft or all the rock-shafts may be linked up to a single cylinder. By unhooking the detachable link 36 any door may be disconnected from the rockshaft and the other door of the pair 'then operates by manipulating the hand lever 41 against the action of the counterweight 43. The apparatus is used normally to charge trucks running on rails thereunder, and such trucks may carry contact arms co-operating with the door-opening mechanism to give an audible or visual signal inside the operator's cabin of the truck when, the hopper doors are opened. In some cases an electric interlock may prevent movement of the truck while the hopper doors are open.
