[Class 59] In a combined roller mill and impact pulverizer for seeds, bones, &c. the pulverizer fan is directly coupled to one of the rollers, a preliminary pair of rolls being used to crush the material for the main rolls which are of small diameter. As shown seeds &c. are passed through a pair of preliminary crushing rolls l and then through a pair of rolls d, the crushed material passing into a pulverizer c through a shoot f. The rolls are serrated and are geared together, the distance apart of the rolls being determined by plain flanges k at the ends which roll on one another. The pulverizer c comprises a cylindrical chamber in which revolves a fan e provided with peripheral blades y, the internal peripheral surface of the cylinder being serrated at g, Fig. 4, and having a discharge opening n controlled by two slotted plates, n<1>, n<11>, the slots of which are moved relatively to one another to control the outlet. The pulverizing chamber may have two or more compartments the partition between each chamber having large perforations x, Fig. 6, to which coarse particles are directed by inclined grooves w in the casing into the next compartment where a fan e<1> with inclined blades y<1> impel fine material back into the first compartment through small holes in the partition v, the coarse material being discharged by inclined slots w<1> to an outlet o. More than two compartments may be used and the last compartment may discharge the ground material through an adjustable grating similar to n arranged on the circumference of the casing.
