Abstract

335,259. Quester, E. June 21, 1929. Pneumatic conveyers.-In a device for pneumatically conveying and cleaning tobacco, cotton, flax, paper threads, hay, tea, &c., the tobacco &c. is carried by a current of air entering at d into a housing containing a rotating sifting-drum b arranged above a discharging bucket wheel a, the current of air passing through the periphery of the drum, together with dust and other light impurities, and out at one end of the drum, while the tobacco &c. falls on to the wheel a. The interior of the drum is fitted with a screen e which exposes only the upper portion of the drum to the air blast, inclined baffles f being fitted within the screen. Regulation of the feed is obtained by an adjustable extension g of the inlet pipe d, bv adjustable valves h admitting air to the housing, and by rotary adjustment of the screen e about the axis of the drum.
