Abstract

228,899. Manificat, E. Feb. 6, 1924, [Convention date]. Preliminary treatment of materials. - In separating dust from fibrous materials such as straw and the like which is to be used for the preparation of paper pulp, the material is fed through a pipe 17 to a perforated cylindrical casing 22 in which rotates a cylinder 4 carrying helical vanes. These feed the material through the casing towards the outlet 19 and loosen the dust which is sucked away down hoppers 11 by a fan 13. Adjustable openings at the ends 15, 16 regulate the admission of air. At the end of t'he operation, the material is sucked out of the apparatus down the pipe 19 by a fan 20. A modification is described in which the material is fed upwards in a vertical direction to the casing 22.
