Abstract

Filling powdered material into bags. - A machine for weighing and filling powdered material into automatically-closing valve bags is characterized by the weighing and the filling being accomplished by working operations which are independent of each other. The material within a supply hopper 1 is loosened by a continuously-rotating stirrer 2 and when the sliding feed gate 3 is drawn out, by hand, the material runs into a weighing receptacle 12 mounted on a beam 13. When the requisite weight has entered, one end of the beam knocks up a catch 9 and a spring 10 draws the feed gate into the closed position. The feed gate is pressed against its seating by weighted levers 6 carrying bell-crank levers 7 provided with rollers bearing against the feed gate. The weighing receptacle is retained in its lower position by a weighted catch 31. To discharge the receptacle, a power-driven friction disc 17 is thrown by hand-operation into gear with a worm 14 which -expels the weighed material through an orifice 15 whence it falls down a vertical filling pipe 16 termiating in a horizontal portion 18, Fig. 2, provided with an air vent 20. The horizontal portion 18 forms a support for the valve bag 19. Owing to the momentum acquired in falling down the filling pipe 16 the bag is filled without the necessity for shaking it. A modified filling pipe, Fig. 5, is provided with a chamber 31 to receive the displaced air. In a further modification the material is delivered to the bag through a short pipe containing a fan wheel to impart the desired velocity to the material. Two independent weighing-machines may be arranged to discharge into a common filling tube. In a modification, Fig. 7, the weighing receptacle 22 is arranged to be tipped by hand so as to discharge its contents into a fixed container 24 provided with a constantly-rotating worm 14 which expels the modification, Fig. 10, the material from a hopper material into the filling tube 16. In a further modification, Fig. 10, the material from a hopper 33 is deflected by a flap 35 into one or other of two shoots 34 and thence to a corresponding weighing receptacle 32. The weighing receptacles discharge into chambers containing worms 36 and the worms deliver to breeches shoots 42 controlled by flaps 37. Four filling pipes 38 - - 41 are provided and the flaps are operated so that the filling pipes receive the weighed charges in rotation. By slowing down the worms 36 and reducing the diameter of the filling pipes 38 - - 41 the bags are filled considerably slower thus avoiding formation of dust and allowing the material to settle without mechanical assistance.
