Abstract

292,479. Platen-Munters Refrigerating System Aktiebolag. June 18, 1927, [Convention date]. Respirators.-Suspended liquid or solid particles, including micro-organisms, are separated from air, gases or vapours by causing the air &c. to pass through or over a filter constituted by mesin, wax, rubber, shellac, &c. which has been melted and allowed to solidify in a strong electric field, such bodies being termed ''' electrets " in the Specification. The preparation of these bodies is described in the Philosophical Magazine 1925, Vol. 49, pages 178-192. Material so treated is stated to attract and retain any liquid or solid particles carried in the air &c., and it may be washed without losing this property. The treated substances may be granulated or formed as an outer layer on a support, such as fabric, paper, threads, &c., and the gas may flow through or along the filter so constituted. Additional absorptive or adsorptive substances, such as granular charcoal or coarse grained sand, may be added. The material may be applied to fans, dust suction apparatus, gas masks, &c. for use in chemical factories, hospitals, mines, &c.
