Fluid-pressure; foot and personal actuation. - In a fluid-pressure brake for automobiles the distributing valve 1 which is of the kind claimed in Specification 246,791, is mounted on the brake cylinder 2 and is controlled by a pedal 11, Fig. 1, through a floating lever 10 pivoted on a lever 8 mounted on the brake-operating shaft to which movement is conveyed from the brake cylinder pull rod 3 by a lever 5 and a rod 7 having a pin- and-slot connection with the lever 8. The distributing valve 1 effects a graduated application and release of the brakes proportional to the pressure exerted on the controlling member of the valve on which the brake pressure exerted reacts. The piston is formed in two parts 16, 17, Fig. 2, between which packing 18 is interposed which is pressed against the cylinder wall by a spring element 19. The hollow piston-rod 4 is threaded in the part 17 and has a seating for the spherical head 20 of the pull rod 3 forming a universal joint for this rod. A spring 34 holds the head 20 in its seat. The atmospheric connection for the outer side of the piston is through a horse hair filter 21 arranged between metal plates in the cylinder cap 14 or a connection to the engine crank case or the like may be made. A deformable sheath 14a of hide is arranged between the cap 14 and the pull rod 3. The piston is lubricated by means of a pressure lubricator 27, the oil flowing through the interior of the rod 3, ports 31 and 32 to an annular chamber 33. The piston rod bearing 26 is provided with a pressure lubricator 24. The pedal 11, Fig. 1, may be pivoted on the brake shaft. Specification 246,793 also is referred to.
