Abstract

1390560 Clutch control WABCO WESTINGHOUSE GmbH 18 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 23379/72 Heading F2L A hydro-pneumatic actuating device 1 for a clutch 40 in which there is compensation for wear in the clutch comprises a piston having parts 10 and 11, the part 10 being annular and subject to air pressure in a chamber 15 (from a supply container 4) when the clutch is to be disengaged, hydraulic fluid from the master cylinder 6 being supplied by the depression of pedal 7 to a chamber 16 to act against piston part 11 (and open valve 9 to admit pneumatic pressure to chamber 15). The piston 10, 11, on moving in direction 26 to disengage the clutch disengages it through a further piston 23 between which and piston 10, 11 is an enclosed volume 33 of fluid through which the movement is transmitted. On there being wear in the clutch the clutch spring 42 still exerts a force in direction 35 on release of pedal 7, and return of piston 10, 11 under the action of spring 22, and this force opens a valve arrangement 27 by pressing it against a seat 21 to allow fluid to escape from chamber 33 and allow piston 23 to move to compensate for the wear. A spring 34 ensures that there is no free play in the device.
