Abstract

218,457. Chillington Tool Co., Ltd., and Hunt, T. J. May 31, 1923. Gauging-devices.-Optical-projection apparatus is utilized by projecting a line of light on to the surface of an article on a machine so that the article may be accurately aligned for machining. The apparatus comprises a lamp casing A formed in two parts B, C, one being stepped down slightly from the other. At one end is fitted an electric light F and a parabolic mirror E whereby the light is reflected on to a screen G provided with a narrow vertical adjustable slit H. Light passing through this slit H is collimated by a lens D and then passes through a plate M having a slit N as shown. The beam, which is narrow and of constant width, is caused to fall upon the surface of the work P, Fig. 4, whereby any particular points p, p can be brought into exact coincidence, with the beam 4 and the work accurately set. The light apertures may have various configurations so as to make marks of any desired shape.
