Abstract

In the gasification of fine-grained solid or liquid fuel with oxygen under overpressure, fine-grained iron oxide- containing material is supplied to the gasification zone for controlling the temperature in the gasification zone to a temperature between 1300 DEG and 1700 DEG C. The reaction products from the gasification are caused to flow immediately after the gasification zone through a layer of pieces of coke having such a depth in the direction of gas flow that the solid and liquid reaction products in the gas are separated out onto the coke. By-product crude iron and slag formed in the process are tapped from a low level in the coke layer and gas is discharged from the coke layer at a higher level. The gas discharged from the coke layer may be utilised for generation of electricity in a combined gas-stream turbine system. <IMAGE>
