Abstract

A flexible ducting element is described which can form a separate unit adapted to be secured to another length of ducting or may comprise an integral section at one end of an overall length of ducting. The ducting is formed from a flexible sleeve 28 and includes a flared insert 30 on at one end through which air is drawn and a supporting ring 32 at its other end. The flexible sleeve is formed from a plastics or similar sheet material having bonded thereto a helical spring. The sleeve will normally occupy an in-line configuration but can be deflected relative to this in-line condition. The invention provides for one or more stay-put springs or similar devices (58) to be secured between the elements 30 and 32 either internally or externally of the sleeve 34 so as to cause the flexible ducting to occupy a deflected position to one side or the other. A complete fume extraction system is described which may be portable and includes support arms for locating the flexible hose/ducting 28 at any convenient point within a working zone or may be wall mounted. Air filtering such as electrostatic and/or carbon is incorporated into the extraction equipment to allow cleaned air to be recirculated into the working environment if desired. <IMAGE>
