Abstract

The invention provides an automatic doffing method for use in a yarn processing machine in which a yarn is continuously delivered from a supply source. During normal winding the yarn is wound up at a winding position on a package P and is simultaneously traversed. During doffing and donning the yarn is reserved at a yarn reserve position located between the supply source and the winding position. Preferably this reserve is produced by a yarn reserve mechanism which includes a yarn reserve roller (303). In an apparatus for carrying out this method the yarn reserve roller (303) is provided with yarn-catching indentations on the end thereof facing the normal yarn traversing ambit. <IMAGE>
