Abstract

1513067 Blow moulding GILDEMEISTER CORPOPLAST GmbH 23 Sept 1976 [30 Sept 1975] 39447/76 Heading B5A Plastics parisons for blow moulding into bottles are made by heating both ends of a cold open-ended parison P, transferring it to a die assembly, gripping the parison intermediate its ends by clamps 10 while deforming one end to form a closed bottom, and also deforming the other end to form a neck by first axially displacing a core 26 into the parison which widens the end into contact with a die section 30 and then admitting pressure medium into the parison to complete the shaping of the neck, e.g. by forming threads in die recesses 43. The middle of the parison is gripped by the clamp 10 while being heated by means not shown and transferred to the die assembly while still gripped. Upper and lower clamps 14, 15 are closed about the parison. Inner and outer cores 24, 26 are displaced into the parison by drive means 22 until the core mounting cylinder 20 engages the die sections 30. An upper die 33 is lowered by drive 34 to shape and close the bottom of the parison which is then cooled by air passed through cavity 36 around the die. The outer core 26 is then displaced into the parison by admitting pressurised air into the cylinder 20 through opening 27. The chamfer on the core 26 expands the end of the parison and a shoulder 45 forms an accurate end face around the neck opening. When the core 26 reaches its forward position, longitudinal grooves 48 on the inner core 24 and a bore 49 in the outer core 26 admit air from behind the core 26 to the space 50 to inflate the parison neck at high pressure. The parison is carried by clamps 14, 15 to a blow mould at which it is blow moulded at a lower pressure to form a bottle.
