Abstract
A process for producing thermographic or photothermographic recording material, using silver salt complexes having an overall stability constant of the complexing agent of from 4.50 to 10.00, is described. The silver-based thermographic or photothermographic recording material consists of a support and at least one layer which contains a binder, a reducing agent and a silver compound. The silver compound is here at least one silver salt. The latter is complexed to the extent of at least 90 % by at least one complexing agent having an overall stability constant of from 4.5 to 10. In the photothermographic recording material, 0.25 to 50 mol % of silver halide, relative to total silver, is distributed in the catalytic proximity to the silver salt complex, i.e. homogeneously in the layer. The layer can be applied very easily. Using a new class of silver compounds, the recording materials can be produced more readily than hitherto and show a high sensitivity and improved storage stability.
