Abstract
1438695 Valves BOPP & REUTHER GmbH 23 Oct 1973 [24 Oct 1972] 49321/73 Heading F2V A float controlled combined air-inlet and outlet valve assembly for liquids in pipes or containers comprises a housing 1 having a bottom flange 34 secured to the pipe or container and enclosing a casing 7 having indentations 8 to guide a float 3 longitudinally. The latter has a projecting boss 9 co-operating with a separate main valve disc 10 having sealing faces 11, 13 mating respectively with seating 12 and resilient seating insert 14 to control airflow through inlet or outlet passage 15. Valve disc 10 has a stem 16 guided in a tubular member 17 having a head 29 secured in a bore of housing cover 2 by plug 30. The latter has a cavity 31 vented to passage 15 by passages 32. An auxiliary valve is formed by an opening 27 in resilient sealing insert 14 and a co-operating closure plate 26. The latter is attached to a yoke 20, 21 which is pivoted at 23 to the top of casing 7 to form a hinged lever, the other end 19 of which engages under a lug 18 secured to float 3. When the pipe or container is drained, housing 1 empties and the water in casing 7 escapes through bores 35 causing float 3 to drop, taking with it main valve disc 10 and causing yoke 20, 21 to pivot and open the auxiliary valve. Thus airflow through both the main and auxiliary valves into the pipe or container takes place. When the latter is again filled with liquid, air is initially vented through both valves, urging of valve disc 10 in the closing direction being prevented by casing 7 which diverts the airflow around float 3 and directs it via openings 36 to passage 15, the disc 10 being situated at a lower level than openings 36. If after both valves have closed pockets of air should collect in the pipe or container these pass into housing 1 causing the liquid level to fall and float 3 to drop. Thus auxiliary valve 26, 27 opens to release the air, though main valve disc 10 is held closed by the internal overpressure.
