Abstract

1436540 Adjusting print registration; proofing BEMROSE SPONDON Ltd 27 Feb 1974 [14 Dec 1972] 57870/72 Heading B6C Printing apparatus comprises a supply roll for a web of paper, a printing station for the moving web, a drying station, and a wind-up device for the web wherein the registration is adjustable in response to marks provided on the web. In particular the apparatus is applicable to proof-printing of a transfer web with heatdispersible dyestuffs to provide proof samples on a single-unit machine, the web being run through to provide a different colour on each run. Thus a web of paper 3, Fig. 2, is passed from supply roll 2 to a print station comprising a photogravure cylinder 11 and an impression cylinder 8, thence round drying drum 14 in a drying cabinet 15 and cooling cylinder 16 to take-up roll 20. In each run a register mark is printed on the web, and photoconductive device 37 senses any mis-registration with the immediately-preceding mark and controls the drive to speed-up-or slow-down the printing unit through servo-motor 25 and gear-boxes 26, 28. The apparatus may also be used for flexographic printing.
