Abstract
1407199 Magnesia refractories STREETLEY (MFG) Ltd 24 Nov 1972 [1 Dec 1971 4 April 1972] 55820/71 and 15482/72 Headings C1J and CIA A sludge comprising magnesium hydroxide is simultaneously dewatered and compacted to give a cake containing at least 67À5% by weight of solids and having a green bulk density of at least 1À15 grams/c.c.; the magnesium hydroxide in the cake obtained may be converted by suitable heat treatment to magnesia. A refractory may be mixed with the sludge before treatment. Refractories that may be used are lime-bearing materials, chrome-bearing materials, zircon, zirconia and zirconium salts, silica, Fe 2 O 3 and alumina. Chrome flour may be mixed with the sludge of Mg(OH) 2 and larger particles of chrome ore with the cake. The dewatering and compacting may be effected by pressure filtration at >400 p.s.i.
