Abstract

1459793 Burners BRITISH STEEL CORP 30 Aug 1974 [31 Aug 1973] 41128/73 Heading F4T [Also in Division B1] In an atomizing nozzle for an oil burner the atomizing gas flows through an annular passage, around an oil inlet stub 12, of such a configuration that it is accelerated to supersonic velocity. This annular passage comprises a converging inlet portion 21 of decreasing cross-sectional area followed by a parallel-sided throat portion 22 and finally a diverging portion around the mouth of the oil stub. The outlet portion 23 diverges slightly and the mouth portion 24 is cylindrical. The various taper angles are specified. Fig. 2 (not shown), discloses a nozzle assembly with provision for water cooling.
