Abstract
1448039 Electric terminals D J GOODMAN 3 Dec 1974 [11 Jan 1974] 52175/74 Heading H2E A terminal for a flexible water-cooled furnace cable comprises a body 15 with a cupshape portion 14, and a composite riser tube 42 comprising outer and inner tubes 40, 44 disposed in coaxial overlapping end-to-end relationship joined by spacers 52 having ports 60. The rigid outer tube 40 is soldered in a counterbore 30 of the portion 14 to define therewith an annular cavity 68 in which the ends 70 of the cable conductors are soldered; one end of the tube 40 communicates with a water-passage 26 and the other end with the inner tube 44 and the parts 60. The inner tube 44 is of flexible metal and communicates for the flow of water between the outer tube 40 and an elastomeric core 78 with ports 80 of the cable. An outer casing 13 of the cable is clamped 92 around the portion 14. In use, water from passageway 26 enters outer tube 40 and leaves either via the inner 44, core 78 and ports 80, or via the ports 60, around the end 74 of and along grooves in the outer surface 77 of the core 78.
