Abstract

1339270 Laying sheet material on soil beds ALVAN BLANCH DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 30 March 1972 [31 Dec 1970] 61956/70 Headings AID and A1E A machine for laying sheet material such as polyethylene on a soil bed comprises a support frame mounted on ground wheels 7 on tracks, a supply drum 9 for the sheet material 11, rollers 12 for pushing the edges of the sheet material 11 into the furrows formed by front plough members 8, and rear plough members 13 to return soil to the furrows and thus secure the sheet material; rear rollers may be provided to consolidate the soil thus returned. The ground wheels 7 may be adjustable in height, the rollers 12 and rear rollers in height and spacing, and the plough members 8 and 13 in height, spacing, and orientation. Means may be provided for cutting a laid length of sheet material 11 and for cutting holes in it to receive plants. The machine may be self-propelled or be attachable to the lift mechanism of a tractor. Alternatively the sheet material may be carried in folded form, and it may be preformed with holes.
