Abstract

1337165 Forming sliver PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 13 Oot 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 49015/71 Heading D1N A web passing under forwarding roller 23 is condensed to a sliver by an endless belt 29 having a run extending along roller 23 and confining the sliver between itself, roller 23 and a co-operating element (e.g. a curved plate or second forwarding roller). A sliver forwarding roller 30 cooperates with the belt 29 form a nip and to forward the sliver, from the forwarding zone, the sliver whilst in this forwarding nip being forwarded in a direction normal to the length of the roller 23. The rotary axes of the roller 23 and roller 30 are transverse to each other. The sliver forwarding roller 30 can be spring biased toward the belt 29. Doctor blades or rollers can clean the belt(s) and sliver forwarding roller(s). There may be more than one belt cooperating with the web forwarding roller 23. The web forwarding roller(s) may form a burr crushing device. The belt 29 may contact or be spaced from the web forwarding roller(s). Two or more webs can be removed from a common carding cylinder and condensed by the above belt and roller arrangement.
