1336188 Stabilized graft copolymer dispersions E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 4 June 1971 19019/71 Heading C3G A stabilized graft copolymer dispersion comprises (a) a graft copolymer having a backbone component comprising an unsaturated polymer or a saturated polymer which provides grafting sites, and at least one graft component one of which comprises a polymer or a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile; (b) an organic liquid; and (c) 0À1-10%, by weight of of the total solids of the composition, of a compound having the formula RR 1 NOH where R and R 1 are hydrogen; alkyl (C 1-12 )Œ-COOH, halogen, -OH, -NH 2 , -SH, -CN or -NO 2 ; alkenyl (C 1-12 )Œ-COOH, halogen, -OH, -NH 2 , -SH, -CN or -NO 2 ; alkynyl (C 1-12 )Œ -COOH, halogen, -OH, -NH 2 , -SH, -CN or NO 2 ; alkyl ether radicals (C 1-12 ); thioether radicals (C 1-12 ); alkylamine radicals (C 1-12 ); alkyl ester radicals (C 2-12 ); keto radicals (C 3-12 ); alkyl aldehyde radicals (C 2-12 ); aralkyl radicals (C 12 ); phenyl radicals; substituted phenyl radicals or naphthyl radicals. Especially preferred as (c) is N,N- diethyl hydroxylamine. The organic liquid (b) is preferably an aliphatic hydrocarbon. The compositions are prepared by adding the hydroxylamine to the graft polymer organosol. One or more fatty acid salts of a metal of variable valence, e.g. a mixture of manganese octoate and cerium octoate, may be added to reduce the curing time of the composition. The stabilized dispersions may be coated on steel sheets. Examples refer to graft polymers comprising polybutadiene grafted with methacrylonitrile, acrylonitrile, or a mixture of methacrylonitrile and vinyl chloride.
