Abstract

1335268 Seed sowing machine A HOLLINS 7 April 1972 [15 April 1971] 9513/71 Heading A1B A soil working and seed sowing machine comprises means such as discs 12 for breaking up a surface layer of soil as the machine is pulled forward by a tractor, this soil being transferred by digger blade 13 to drum 14, which has a canopy 21 and closed sides. Inside the drum cutting elements 20 are rotated to break up the soil. These elements are mounted on shaft 15 which is driven at one end by a chain 16 from a drive shaft 17 that is driven, via gearbox 18, from p.t.o. shaft 19 of the tractor. Shaft IS is normally rotated clockwise but this direction can be reversed by using gear box 18 so that soil is directed against a row of chains hanging in the rear of the drum. Seeds are fed into the furrows from hopper 24 and as the machine passes over the deposited seeds the broken soil is thrown down ramp 23 to cover the seeds. Conveyors and rollers may be positioned behind and above blade 13 respectively so as to assist in the raising of soil to drum 14. The machine may be supported by either skids 11 or wheels.
