Abstract

1311619 Bonded fabrics SCOTT PAPER CO 19 April 1971 [30 March 1970] 25469/71 Headings D1N and D1R A batt of wood pulp or other short natural cellulosic fibres and a batt of high wet modulus 1.5 to 3 denier 1-9/16 to 2 inch rayon, polyamide, polyether or cotton fibres are blended then air laid onto a condenser roll to form a batt of 75% wood pulp fibres. The batt is sprayed with water whilst on a foraminous conveyor, then embossed between rigidly and spring mounted rolls. The root and land areas of the rolls are aligned. Oil at 155‹F-170‹F is passed through each roll. The batt is then passed through rolls having aligned raised portions for providing edge seals extending across the web and other rolls for longitudinal sealing. A cross-linkable acrylic latex, containing hard and soft adhesive, ammonium chloride and a wetting agent is sprayed onto each side in turn while suction is applied to the other side, before or after the edge sealing. After curing at 300‹F and slitting along the seals, non woven fabrics are produced having high loft regions in which the binder is substantially confined to the edges, separated by a network of narrow, highly compressed regions in which the whole thickness contains binder.
