Abstract
1305642 Artificial magmatic rock TATABANYAI SZENBANYAK 9 April 1970 [17 April 1969] 16989/70 Headings C1J and C1K An artificial magmatic rock is composed of 45-60% by weight SiO 2 , 15-40% by weight of trivalent metal oxides, at least 40% by weight said trivalent oxides being Fe 2 O 3 , 10-20% by weight of divalent oxides and 1-5% by weight alkaline oxides, said composition being predominantly in the form of crystal associations, having a size of 2-20 Á, said crystals having a crystallization temperature range of 1200-900‹ C. and said crystal associations consisting essentially of 55-75% by weight labradorite-feldspar composed of albite 30-40 anortite 60-70, 5-15% by weight of monoclinic pyroxene, 1-10% by weight of rhombic pyroxene (hypersthene) containing magnesium- 5-25% by weight of oxides, predominantly having a spinel structure and trivalent metal oxides predominantly comprising Fe 2 O 3 . The rock is made by melting raw materials, allowing the melt to stand at 1500-1350‹ C., casting at 1350-1200‹ C. after the removal of gases, crystallizing the cast melt at 1200-900‹ C. for 0À5-4 hours with a constant or decreasing temperature gradient and thereafter cooling the crystallized melt at a rate of 20-80‹ C. per hour. Suitable raw materials are slag from the burning of stone coal (caustobiolite), fly ash and waste colliery stock piles together with additives to decrease the melting point, viscosity and crystallization temperature and to adjust the composition, e.g. fluorine chlorine and/or carbonate containing components can be added to decrease the melting point of raw materials rich in alumina. Numerous suitable additives are listed, in the examples the additives used are bauxite, magnesium carbonate, limestone, and sodium carbonate. The additives can be added to the melt or solid raw material or mixed with coal to be burnt.
