Procedure for the manufacture of magnesite-chromium and chromium-magnesite refractory bricks, in which materials containing chromium oxide are mixed, especially chromite with a grain size of 0 to 6 mm maximum, preferably 4 mm as maximum, with fine-grained magnesite, possibly sintered magnesia, or other fine-grained magnesium compounds, natural or synthetic, that give periclase when calcined and with a grain size of less than 0.20 mm, preferably 0.12 mm at most which, based on the calcined state, contain less than 95%, preferably less than 93%, of MgO, and are sintered without melting, preferably after casting to form briquettes or bricks, at temperatures of at least 1,750º, suitably 1,850º at least, and then this sintered material, which has a content of 5 to 40%, especially 20 to 30%, of Cr2O3, is granulated and, eventually, after adding sintered magnesia, it is brick-shaped, characterized in that: a) for the manufacture of the sintered material, at least 20% and at most 80% of the materials containing chromium oxide, have a grain size of less than 0.12 mm; b) the sintered material has a silicic acid content of 2.5% at most, a lime content of 4% at most and c) a lime to silicic acid molar ratio of greater than 0.6 to 2.5 .
