Abstract

1305084 Cupola furnaces AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO Inc 24 Feb 1970 [24 Feb 1969] 8895/70 Heading F4B A cupola furnace comprises a waste gases offtake 6 and a removable cover 18 sealing the shaft 2 and supported by a counterweighted cantilever 11 carrying an upper wall 9, said wall 9 incorporating a peripheral wall 26 with flange 27 sealing against flange 28 on said shaft 2 and thus definining a plenum chamber 23, which, when placed under suction, will remove gases leaking through the seals. Lugs 17 depending from wall 9 engage pairs of upstandlugs 21 on cover 18 and are connected thereto by pins 22 extending through slots 19. A connection (31, Fig. 1) from the plenum chamber extends to a point in the gas system down stream of the offtake 6 where the pressure is less than atmospheric, e.g. between a quencher and a scrubber.
