Abstract

130,237. Spear, L. Y., and Davison, G. C. Nov. 5, 1918. Ordnance, design. - Relates to non-recoil guns as described in Specifications 23512/11 and 18268/13, adapted to discharge a mass rearwards to balance the forward ejection of the projectile, which arrangement is specially suitable for use on aircraft. According to the invention, the cartridge case E is made in one with or is fastened to the mass E<1> and both the cartridge case and the projectile C are made with rifling bands e<3>, c respectively, to cause them to robate in opposite directions, both front and rear barrels being similarly rifled. Projections such as bevelled rings c are formed on the case, and the wall of the case between these rings is perforated to allow the powder gases to pass to the outside of the case to prevent it sticking in the gun. A stud F on the cartridge is adapted to fit into corresponding notches in the gun to ensure the radial primer G being in line with the firing-pin D of the gun. The projectile has a flat rear end and a flat or cupshaped nose to ensure a straight course when the projectile falls in water at a high angle.
