Abstract
1397793 Comminuting elastomers; impact pulverisers BRITISH OXYGEN CO LTD 18 July 1973 [25 April 1972] 19239/72 Heading B2A Elastomeric material is cooled to its embrittlement temperature by contact with a liquid coolant e.g. liquid nitrogen, argon, air or CO 2 or the vapours therefrom, ground and contacted with an anti agglomerant, e.g. silica talc, carbon black, zinc or calcium stearate, kiesselguhr, kaolin, magnesia fibrous glass, fibrous silicate or mica. Precooled material from a hopper 11 Fig 1 is screw fed to a mill 19, discharged via a screen 23 into a fluidised bed apparatus 25 containing anti agglomerant Coolant is supplied at 13. Anti agglomerant in liquid form would be sprayed. In a second embodiment silica from a hopper 75 is metered by a gate 77 into a screw conveyor 63 which transports the elastomer from a hopper 57 to the mill 65. The coolant rate to the mill and hopper 57 are controlled by a thermocouple 81.
