Abstract
1395879 Transferring articles between belt conveyers J A MARTIN and W J M R E OWEN [trading as OMNI SYSTEMS] 8 Jan 1973 [8 Oct 1971] 47083/71 Heading B8A Articles passing successively from a conveyer or shoot 28 are deflected in respectively opposite lateral directions by a plate 1 which is moved by a pneumatic cylinder and piston device 8. The articles thus form two streams side-by-side on a downstream conveyer 5. The plate 1 is carried by a frame 2 on which the cylinder 8 is rigidly mounted. Pistons 9, 10, have their respective ends fixed relative to the apparatus. A pivotable plate 23 ensures that the articles are guided to the correct side of the plate 1. In operation, an article passing from the conveyer 28 on to the conveyer 5 is guided by a pivotable flap 23, on to the left-hand side of the plate 1. It then operates a limit switch (not shown) which results in leftwards (as viewed in the direction of the arrow) movement of the plate 1. A cam follower 25 connected to the plate 23 engages a stop 27, and this causes the plate 23 to be deflected into a position in which it guides the next article to the right of the plate 1 (in the new position of the latter). The limit switch is again operated by the article which is then deflected to the right, and so on. The cam follower 25 then engages a cam 26 similar to the cam 27. The cam follower 25 may be replaced by a linkage arrangement having the same effect. The air cylinder 8 may be replaced by hydraulic or electrical devices. The limit switch may be replaced by a photo-electric cell. Specification 1,395,490 is referred to.
