Abstract

1383403 Storage and mixing apparatus MILTON ENG WORKS (GRAVESEND) Ltd 13 July 1973 [13 April 1972] 17127/72 Heading B1C Self contained apparatus for the storing, feeding and mixing granular solid material with a liquid so as to provide a slurry for the treatment of effluent or sewage comprises a housing 2 which forms a container 4 for the storage of granular material in the upper region of the housing and a mixing tank 20 at the lower end and an intermediate compartment between the container and mixing tank which forms a machinery space 34, which houses a solid material feed conveyor 70 and the drive motor 58 for the mixing tank stirrer 56. The container 4 is supplied with granular material by way of port 40 and pipe 38 by a fluid (air) conveyor system upper and lower level indicators 44 being provided in the container. Water is supplied to the mixing tank through an inlet 48 and an overflow 52 and recirculation inlet 54 are provided and the mixing tank is provided upper and lower liquid level indicators 64 and 62 respectively. In operation the granular material is supplied from the bottom 16 to the container via gate valve 17 and conveyor 70 and feeder 68 into the mixing tank into which water has been supplied, the constituents are mixing by the mixing unit 56 58 and the resultant slurry pumped from the mixing tank through outlet 50 to its place of use. The quantity of solids feed to the mixing tank is controlled by the rotary feeder 68 and the conveyor and the operation and the various inlet and outlet valves may also be controlled in conjunction with the level indicators in the container and mixing tank. The lower end of the housing is partitioned as indicated at 18 and 18a to provide a chamber for an operation control room 28 and from which the machinery area is accessible by way of ladder 36. The container is also provided with a longitudinally extending cavity 6 with a ladder 12 to permit access to the top 8 of the container on which are. located air filters 42 and a sealed door 10 which facilitates access to the interior of the container. Fluid (air) pressure means 46 is provided at the outlet of the container to be used in the event of arching of the material which prevents the out flow.
