Abstract
1378176 Stacking machines; luffing arm apparatus E C PARROTT 14 July 1972 [16 April 1971 10 May 1972] 9600/71 and 21754/72 Headings B8C and B8H A bale stacking machine places bales B in pairs on a stacking support consisting of forks 5 which successively descend as the stack is built up, alternate pairs of bales being turned through 90 degrees. The bales are received from shoot 12 on platform 13, the first bale being pushed laterally by means 2 to form a pair with the following bale (Fig. 4). The pair are then gripped by hydraulically operated members 31 dependent from cross-member 32 extending between arms 42 which are raised by hydraulic rams 40 to deposit the pair on forks 5. Grippers 31 are mounted on a beam 33 which is rotated through 90 degrees by bevel gears in a supporting housing 34 as arms 42 rise. In completing the bale transfers, arms 42 release a drum 6 for limited rotation to pay out wire 52 supporting forks 5, whereby the forks descend by the height of a bale. When a stack of four pairs is built up, retaining doors 55 are released and ejector 9 pushes the stack from fork 5. A trip arm is engaged by bales entering platform 13, firstly to release pusher 2, and secondly to operate a control valve of the hydraulic system.
