Abstract
1376527 Plasma blow torch MESSER GRIESHEIM GmbH 25 Aug 1972 [28 Aug 1971] 39723/72 Heading H5H The rod cathode 15 of a plasma welding and cutting torch is automatically centred relative to nozzle orifice 32 when the nozzle 31 to attached assembly 13, 31 is secured to the torch body. A cathode centering element 29 of ceramic, provided with gas passages, is disposed in one end of an axial bore of the nozzle holder 13 and the nozzle 31 is screwed into the other end of the bore. An insulating member 12 is secured by screws 23 to a copper electrode holder 11 and is provided with a flat surface 27<SP>1</SP> against which a flat surface 27 of nozzle holder 13 is slidable in the direction A. Thus, when the nozzle holder 13 containing the centering element 29 is fixed to the torch body by screwing the sleeve nut 37 to a threaded ring 35 seated on insulating member 12, the nozzle holder 13 will slide in the direction A until the electrode 15 is centred on nozzle orifice 32 by the centering element 29. A ceramic sleeve 40 is screwed at 39 to nozzle holder 13 and surrounds sleeve nut 37. The electrode holder 11 and insulating member 12 are surrounded by a plastics tube 41 enclosed in a guard tube 42. The torch can work in the transferred or non- transferred mode.
