Abstract

1340842 Plasma arc torches V V AVERYANOV N I BORTNICHUK V N GARANOV M M KRUTYANSKY V S MALINOVSKY G I MEERSON L A MALTSEV and L A PANYCHEVA 14 Feb 1972 6726/72 Heading H5H A plasma arc torch comprises an electrode holder 2 carrying an electrode 3 which is adjustable radially and axially with respect to a cooled nozzle 4 which surrounds the electrode 3. Radial adjusting means comprise a ring 8 welded to the cooling fluid tubes 7 and an insulating insert 10 surrounding the holder adjustable by screws 9. Axial adjustment is achieved by the arrangement of nut 14 and the plate 15, the plate 15 being secured to a plate 5, an insulating bush 13 electrically isolating the electrode holder from the plate 5. The plate 5 has cooling fluid ducts 6 communicating with the tubes 7. The assembly of holder 2, nozzle 4 and plate 5 is mounted in a housing 1, packing rings 11 and 12 sealing said assembly in the housing. There may be four tubes 7.
