Abstract
1370135 Air supply to fluent fuel furnaces ECOLOGICAL CONTROLS Inc 12 Nov 1971 [12 Nov 1970] 52678/71 Heading F4B Air is fed into a combustion chamber in a whirling stream to flow in the opposite longitudinal direction to the hot gases and flame from a burner so as to surround the flame and inhibit its spread perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. Additional air is fed to a combustion chamber 14 through a ceramic sleeve 54 projecting into the combustion chamber so that the air is preheated. A nozzle 58 at the furnace end of tube 54, and vanes at its inlet end produce a high velocity whirling air stream to ensure complete combustion of fuel from a burner 16, producing a gas flow in the opposite direction to that from the tube 54. The tube 54 may be supplied by a fan 24, and the air supply conduit may comprise a damper and a peep sight 46. The tube 54 may be of silicon carbide.
