Abstract

1361415 Can with frangible closure/caps for containers METAL BOX CO Ltd 4 Aug 1972 [27 Sept 1971] 44919/71 Headings B8D and B8T [Also in Division B3] The open end of a can 1 is closed by a frangible membrane 2 the periphery of which is folded and gripped between a clinched bead 3 in the can and an inturned can portion 4. In Figs. 2 and 12, the folded portion 11 of the diaphragm lies against the diaphragm 2; and in Fig. 12 a portion 27 of the portion 4 is folded on to the remainder of the portion 4. In a modification (Fig. 14) the folded diaphragm-portion 11 is gripped between the portion 27 and the remainder of the portion 4. In Fig. 17, the portion 4 comprises a curl 28 which grips the diaphragm against the load 3 and which has an end 25 gripping the diaphragm portion 11 against the can wall. The diaphragm may be of paper or, metal or plastics foil. The can is also closed by a cover 7 having a peripheral bead 9 which engages projections 10 on the outer wall of the can. The cover also has an annular gasket for sealing against the portion 4.
