Abstract
1354363 Glass-metal composite fibrous material W DANNOHL 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23200/71 Heading C1M [Also in Division C7] A three-fibre composite material contains up to 80% by volume of a glass phase, e.g. lead glass, a low-melting phase composed of magnesium or a magnesium-lithium alloy, and a high-melting phase composed of equivalent amounts of nickel, iron or cobalt and titanium, aluminium or beryllium. The fibrous material is produced by mixing powders of the constituents, sintering and then rolling or extruding with intermediate annealing treatments. Alternatively glass or ceramic fibres may be incorporated in the original powder mixture. The glass has lower thermal expansion than the metals/alloys and thereby give increased strength to the mixture.
