Abstract
1347785 Reducing particulate ores FIERRO ESPONJA SA 30 June 1971 [15 July 1970 16 Dec 1970] 30643/71 Heading C7D The ore forms a downwardly moving bed in a vertical shaft incorporating an upper reduction zone and a lower cooling zone; hot reducing gas is passed through the former while cooling gas is circulated in a closed loop through the cooling zone and a cooler, the pressure differential between the bottom of the reducing zone and the top of the cooling zone being maintained substantially at zero by regulating the venting of cooling gas from the cycle. In a particular embodiment, a reducing gas stream produced in reformer 32 heated by heat exchanger 46, coil heater 48, and by partial combustion, is introduced into reduction zone 12 of reactor 10 through plenum chamber 24, and withdrawn through line 32, cooling gas introduced to zone 14 through plenum chamber 28 is withdrawn through line 94 and recycled through heat exchanger 46 and quench cooler 100. The pressure differential P 1 - P 2 is sensed by unit 120 which either causes controller 126 to adjust the back pressure in diverted cooling gas line 104, or Fig. 2 causes flow controller 402 to adjust the flow rate of diverted cooling gas in relation to that of incoming fresh cooling gas.
