Abstract
1,239,269. Nuclear fuel. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 13 Dec., 1968 [13 Dec., 1967], No. 59513/68. Heading G6C. A process for obtaining a fuel pellet from a powder consisting of the oxide of uranium or plutonium or a mixture of the oxides, comprises the steps of cold pressing a quantity of the powder to produce a self-supporting fragile preform, placing the preform in a die, applying a pressure in the range 4000-20,000 p.s.i. to crush the preform, simultaneously heating the preform in the range 800-1300 C., maintaining the pressure and temperature from 3-20 minutes, and removing the pellet from the die.
