Abstract
1,233,268. 2-Carboxamido-3-hydroxy benzofurans. LABORATOIRE ROGER BELLON. 1 July, 1969 [1 July, 1968], No. 31277/68. Heading C2C. Novel 2 - carboxamido -3 - hydroxyfurans of the formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are the same, and are H, or C 1-4 alkyl, or together with the N atom to which they are attached form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, which may contain a further hetero atom, and R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 , are the same or different, and are H, halogen C 1-4 alkyl or C 1-4 alkoxy are prepared by either hydrolysing the corresponding nitriles obtained by cyclizing the appropriate methyl o-cyanomethoxybenzoates with alkaline reagents, or by cyclising the corresponding methyl 2-(N-disubstituted carboxamidomethoxy)- benzoates, which are made by reacting alkali metal salts of the appropriate methyl salicylate with the corresponding N-disubstituted derivative of chloroacetamide of the formula ClCH 2 CON(R)R<SP>1</SP>. Pharmaceutical compositions, having chloretic activity, contain the above novel compounds in association with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers.
