A process for purifying a sublimable benzenecarboxylic acid or ammonium salt thereof comprises subliming the benzene-carboxylic acid or ammonium salt thereof to form a vapour, passing the vapour or a mixture of the vapour and an inert gas through an electrostatic filtering zone whereby the impurities are removed from the vapour of the benzene carboxylic acid or salt thereof, and recovering benzene carboxylic acid or ammonium salt thereof from the filtered vapour.
