Abstract
1,226,799. Granulating foodstuffs. INSTITUT GORJUCHIKH ISKOPAEMYKH. 30 April, 1968, No. 20362/68. Heading B5A. Feed material for poultry and fish, and which has been ground on rollers, is granulated into spheres by the continuous deposition thereof on to the surface of an inclined rotary disc which is sprayed with liquid, e.g. water, containing microadditives and vitamins such as manganese and Vitamin "B", whereby the larger granules accumulate at and continuously spill over the circumferential wall 7 of the disc, the inclination of the disc to the horizontal being adjustable, from 30-50 degrees, whereby the granule size may be varied, and means being provided to prevent adhesion of the granules to the surface of the disc, e.g. a knife 14 or a release coating. The material is deposited from a hopper 9, via a screw 10 and shoot 11 sited on the trailing side of and below the knife 14 on the descending side of the disc, and the liquid is sprayed from one or more nozzles 5 adjacent the outlet of shoot 11. A further nozzle may be located above the upper descending part of the disc prior to the leading edge of knife 14. For producing larger diameter granules the inclination of the disc to the horizontal is decreased, Fig. 7 (not shown), and material is also deposited on the ascending side of the disc from an additional depositing arrangement (9, 10, 11) adjacent a further nozzle (5), additional nozzles (5) also being provided on the upper ascending part of the disc.
