Abstract

1,225,748. Cremation furnaces. DOWSON & MASON Ltd. 1 Dec., 1969 [5 Feb., 1969], No. 6130/69. Heading F4B. Crematorium apparatus comprises two pairs of cremation furnaces 1 with combustion chambers la in which coffins 6 are disposed horizontally on support bars 7 above bottom discharge doors 2a opening into water-cooled vibratory troughs 3 discharging into magnetic rotary separators 5 feeding a granulator 4 of the type disclosed in Specification 948,819 (Divisions B1-B2). Hot gases from chambers la escape through upper ports 12, travel down and up vertical passages 13 to horizontal flues 15 from which they are extracted by Venturi eductors 16. Alternatively, the hot gases may pass by a lower flue 10 to preheat the next furnace if the other set of eductors 16 is used. The furnaces are heated by upper burners 8 and lower burners 9. Controls allowing entry of additional combustion air are responsive to the density of smoke in passages 13. A centralized remote control is provided. for sequential operation of the furnaces, the vibratory troughs and the granulator, so that the latter handles only one set of ashes at once. If only one furnace is in use at once the waste gases are evacuated as disclosed in Application No. 33624/68.
