Abstract
1,211,580. Heating I. C. engine intake air. R. BOSCH. G.m.b.H. Feb.2, 1968 [Feb. 3, 1967], No.5321/68. Heading F1B. In a system for starting an engine employing fuel injection, one or more flame glow plugs 18 in the intake manifold 19 are adapted to be connected to a pump 16 supplied with fuel from a tank 8 under the control of a solenoid actuated valve 9. The tank 8 is supplied from a tank 3 by a pump 1 and has an overflow 10, 12, containing a throttling restriction, (11) Fig.2 (not shown) or (13) Fig.3 (not shown), back to the tank 3. The throttling restriction, at higher engine speeds, causes a pressure build up in the tank 8 and therefore upstream of the pump 16 whereby a greater quantity of fuel is supplied to the or each glow plug 18. The glow plugs are electrically heated prior to engine starting.
