Abstract
1296057 Burning liquid fuel PEISENKLAM and J S ARCHER 9 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 34685/69 Heading F4B Fluid fuel, which may be residual fuel oil, is partially burnt in a chamber A, and the combustion products, including solid particles, are fed to a distributer 12 within a fluidized bed B, which is supplied only with sufficient air for sub-stoichometric or stoichiometric combustion through a distributer plate 15. The amount of solid combustion products is controlled by injecting steam into the chamber A and by regulating the amount of air supplied. Solid particles in the gas coining from the fluidized bed B are returned by a cyclone 18, and part of the gases are recirculated to preheat the air supplied at H. A heat exchanger 10 cools the gases from the chamber A before they are fed to the secondary combustion bed B. Heat exchange elements 16 are immersed in the bed B. The heat produced in the bed B can be regulated by controlling the primary combustion, by controlling the temperature of the products fed to the bed B and by controlling the recirculation of the waste gases in the fluidized bed. The primary combustion may take place in several stages, the combustion products being cooled between each stage.
